Will the Third Charter Flight to Phuket Be Successful?
[IMG=21856-7661]The second half of December is marked with the changed situation on the Thai market – there are active bookings for January. According to Dmitry Chichkanov, Senior Manager of the Thai Department of Skyway, ‘a sales slowdown might be only at the end of January, while at the moment the level of Phukhet sales is approaching the one of 2004’. The current demand for the destination engendered the launch of a new charter program to the island – three Transaero Boeing – 767 flights every ten days – January 3rd, 14th and 24th. We remind you that at present a weekly charter program consolidated by TEZ TOUR and Natalie tours and Boeing-747 flights (once in ten days) are operated to the destination. The pool of tour operators that consolidate the Boeing-747 flights – Bureau South Cross, PAKS, Lanta-tour voyage, CAPITAL TOUR, Aniko-tour – initiated the increase in air traffic volume.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Chichkanov believes that the growth of air traffic volume to Thailand is reasonable as traditionally the destination is experiencing shortage of flights during this time of the year. Tatiana Korshunova, Vice President, Product Promotion, of Lanta-tour Voyage, pointed out that favorable forecasts regarding the additional flight are stimulated by good sales depth. Furthermore, Alexander Skroman, the Head of the South-East Asia Department of Bureau South Cross, stated that possible excess of air traffic volume might again result into price reduction for tour packages for Thailand. He also added that ‘a big number of flights to Phuket lead to shortage of hotel rooms’. Alexander Tugolukov, Director of Biblio-Globus, agreed: ‘the existing number of flights is enough to meet the demand for the destination’.
