According to the International Air Transport Association, by the beginning of 2008 the IATA members will have to adopt an electronic ticket booking system.
Thus, TAIS Company, that provides Russian aviation alliance AIRUnion with Automatic Information Systems, and IATA announced their intention to sign Strategic Partnership Agreement. This will contribute into the integration of the alliance into the international system of e-ticketing. AIRunion plan to start e-tickets sales in summer 2006, however, the Russian legislature prevents airline companies from adopting e-ticketing system owing the fact that an e-ticket is not a fiscal document that is against the Tax Code of the Russian Federation. Moreover, e-tickets are not mentioned in the Air Law of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, Olga Bikova, PR Manbager of AIRUnion PR Group, commented on the current situation as follows: ‘AIRUnion experts do not doubt the issue will be regulated. As far as we know, amendments to the corresponding law were approved by the Ministry of transport and at the moment are on approval in The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice. Until the amendments are approved both variants of tickets will be sold by the companies within the alliance’.
Furthermore, Irina Dannenberg, the Head of Aeroflot Press Service, said: 'as soon as legal acts are adopted we will start selling e-tickets'.
The majority of Russian travel companies approve of the e-ticketing system. For example, Maxim Ivanchenko, General Director Deputy of Transtour Travel, believes, that the system will help to save time. Besides, a passenger can not either lose or forget an e-ticket.
