Starting from autumn 2006 scheduled flights will be operated to the popular Indian resort Goa with the intention to realize year-round scheduled flights to the destination. At the moment the issue is being negotiated with Transaero Airlines, said Mr. Dugle, General Director of the Indian Incoming Company Minar Travels: ‘at the last meeting the airline company confirmed its plans regarding the launch of year-round flights, however, the outcome of the negotiations is to be seen. Meanwhile, experts believe that the airline will operate two scheduled flights per week: from Moscow and St. Petersburg. The initiative is aimed at promotion of India in the Russian Travel market and creation of additional opportunities for Russian tourists, who will be provided with discounts for inner flights by the majority of local airlines in Goa’.
Meanwhile, PR Director of Transaero, Sergey Bikhal, pointed out that the current changes refer to the process of converting of Transaero charters to Goa into scheduled flights. He added that at the moment Transaero realizes scheduled flights to Singapore, Male, Bangkok, Utapao, Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar.
Furthermore, Russian travel market players that specialize in the Indian destination divided opinions regarding the consequences of scheduled flights to Goa.
Thus, Manager of Aurveda-Tour, Olga Volodina, believes that there is a shortage of charter flights to the destination: ‘I think that despite high tariffs scheduled flights to Goa will be in demand, especially among pilgrims who travel to the south of the country. In the low season the flights will be popular with businessmen and those who go book medical tours’. The Head of Commercial Department of Lanta – tour Voyage, Evgeny Nartsissov, shared his opinion on the scheduled flights to Goa: ‘Transaero scheduled flights might result into a situation when a certain number of tickets is bought by those tourists who do not book from travel companies, thus, not bringing profit to tour operators. On the other hand, Elena Zelenina, Development Director of DEO Travel Company believes that the launch of scheduled flights to Goa will not affect the travel market as people will still book tours from tour operating companies.
