Greek Government Plans To Adopt New Tourism Policy

[IMG=19791-5563] Greece is set to adopt a new tourism policy - according to Fani Pallia-Petralia, The Minister of Tourism Development in Greece. Pallia-Petralia said that 'The soul of Greece belongs to tourism. Therefore, our country is happy to set the example for national tourism development'. The new policy is primarily aimed at improving the quality of service available to visitors to Greece, increasing the demand for Greek resorts, and financing advertising in order to support the Greek travel industry. Irina Tresorukova, PR Specialist for the Greek Tourism Board explained that 'The National Information Centre will be established in order to provide tour operating companies and tourism organizations world-wide with all the necessary information on Greece - in many languages. Moreover, following an EU agreement on visa systems, the visa issuing process will be simplified for certain categories of people - students and pilgrims, for example'. Meanwhile, Russian tour operators point out that Greece is one of the most stable and non-problematic of all destinations, with a good tourist flow. This being true - why do Greek authorities plan to contribute into its' promotion? Svetlana Stroganova, General Director of Eurotravel, suggested that 'Greece does not want to lose its position in the competition with Cyprus, where the Government contributes a lot into the travel industry. Besides, tourism is the main industry in Greece and they always want to attract more tourists'. Tatiana Korshunova, Director of the Product Promotion Department of Lanta-Tour Voyage, emphasized: 'government attention always stimulates the quality of services and advertising campaigns - and consequently the demand for a destination'.
