From April 24th to April 30th the delegation of 250 professionals from the French region Rona-Alps presents the cultural heritage of the destination, its tourism and gastronomy resources in Moscow and St. Petersburg. ‘We came to gain your hearts and to sell a part of our beautiful country’, said Cristian Goduel, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Region. Given eight tones of equipment the delegation brought with them, their plans regarding Russia are quite ambitious – they intend to attract to the country 20, 000 000 potential tourists from Russia.
However, behind the scenes of the travel market there are skeptic opinions towards the campaign – some experts doubt single steps to be effective, pointing out that in order to increase tourist flow the complex approach is necessary, especially considering the fact that the Region is positioned as year-round destination. Thus, Vladimir Kantorovich, Councilor of Federal Tourism agency and President of KMP Group, stated as follows: ‘at the moment Rona-Alps welcomes comparatively small tourist flow from Russia, who mainly prefer ski resorts of Three Valleys region. In order to stimulate the tourist flow it is necessary to organize a direct inexpensive flight. The plans to operate a daily Moscow – Lion flight by Aeroflot are still plans only…’
Nevertheless, travel market players are glad that France will not mean for Russian tourists only Paris and Cote d’Azur. ‘It will take four years to make Rona-Alps popular in the Russian market…if only they do not have 5-10 million dollars on advertising’, said Viktor Gordeev, General Director Deputy of CAPITAL TOUR.
