Three + three

Upon the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation April 29th and 30th and May 1st, 7th, 8th and 9th are official holidays in Russia in 2006. Thus, the 'holiday scheme' is the same as last year: three days off, five working days and again three days off. A BANKO correspondent found out that travel companies already have the statistics comparing current situation with previous years. Thus, Sergey Romashkin, General Director of Dolphin Travel Company, that tourists prefer to book tours for the second part of the holiday (May 7th, 8th, 9th). 'Three years ago the situation was different: 75% of tourist prefered the beginning of May', outlined the expert. Meanwhile, Maxim Pristavko, Commercial Director of Jet Travel emphasized that the exsisting scheme of May Holidays does not affect considerably the outbound tourism. 'Two years ago when the decree was signed the demand for May tours declined', said Pristavko. He also pointed out that it is not reasonable for tour operators to prepare short tours for May holidays as the price for fuel makes such tours incompetitive with standard 7-day tours. Furthermore, Gennady kosarev, General Director of Fresh Travel expressed more optimism: 'Bank employees usually have a holiday period from April 29th till May 9th. Besides, many catering companies do not work. Therefore, the demand for standard May tours is still high', said Kosarev.
