Egypt or Luggage?

On April 19th the issue that generated the great interest on forum on the professional portal www.tourdom.ru was the ceiling for amount of luggage set for flights by the Ural Airlines from the region to Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurgada. With the reference to New Regions it was reported: 'the airline sets a ceiling for luggage amount for flights to Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurgada from Ekaterinburg, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen. The norm is set at 6 kilos per person. No luggage is meant for children under 6 years old. In case of baggage excess tourists can be banned to fly'. Meanwhile, according to Irina Perenchevich, the Head of the Airline comppany press service, tour operators define a number of passengers on board, while the carrier calculates the commercial load: 'as a consequence in order to meet the norm we have to reduce an amount of baggage', explained Perenchevic. The Airline Press release also said that the demand for Hurgada and Sharm-el-Sheikh is very high at the moment, therefore the ceiling for luggage is set by tour operators not the Airline. Representatives of Ekaterinburg travel companies interviewed by a BANKO correspondent are not concerned about the new rule. 'This rule was adopted quite long time ago, and of course we warn our passengers not to take much luggage with them', commented Director of Intourline, Alexander Chirkov. Vice-president of Fund of the World, Olga Sverchkova, agreed. According to her, the ceiling is explained by a big amount of fuel necessaruy for a flight to Egypt. There have been only a few cases when passanges were taken from the flight due to excess baggage. 'Such measures are of course unpleasant for tourists, however, they do not affect the demand for the destination', summarized Sverchkova.
