'We Were Beaten by The Police’

At the end of last week BANKO Information Service received a phone call from a tourist who informed a BANKO correspondent that Egyptian policemen had committed an arbitrary act over her and her boyfriend. According to the tourist, on February 5th they arrived at Sharm-el-Sheikh Airport where while visa issuing policemen came to them, grabbed the wallet and asked to follow them. It is difficult to describe details of what happened afterwards, as the tourist became very emotional talking about that. The general gist of it is that they ‘were beaten with batons and butt stocks and were poured over with vodka’. Finally, the police took them to the hotel where they were again beaten at the reception with the act being witnessed by the hotel staff. The tourist also said that they could not return to Moscow on the same day and had to stay in Egypt for the whole time of the trip. Furthermore they did not contact the Russian consulate in Cairo being afraid they could not prove their innocence in the foreign country. According to her, the police version is that drunk tourists attacked one of the policemen. BANKO Information Service will publish the results of its investigation of the case in Hot Line.
