Everyday there is new information about problematic situations travel market participants faced during the New Year period. Natalia Kotelnikova, General Director of ‘Pearl-tour’ (Dmitrovgrad) informed a ‘BANKO’ correspondent about one of them. According to her, on the 11th of January, a tourist from Ulyanovsk, was transported back to Russia from Finland by a special flight. He had serious health problems.
He came to Finland with his wife and daughter for the period from 29.12.05 to 5.01.06. On the 2nd of January the tourist felt ill and was taken to hospital where he spent more than a week. According to Natalia Kotelnikova, his insurance company ‘Moscow Insurance Company’ refused to compensate treatment expenses due to the diagnosis made by Finnish doctors – ‘acute pancreatitis caused by alcohol abuse’. Alexander Stukanov, the Head of Tourist Insurance Department of ‘Moscow Insurance Company’, confirmed this information. He added that until the tourist came back to Russia, the insurance company provided ‘informational and organizational support’.
According to the agency, the tourist’s wife and daughter were in the hospital with him trying to settle treatment and transportation issues. Natalia Kotelnikova said to a ‘BANKO’ correspondent that in the end the Finnish hospital organized his transportation to Ulyanovsk where he was immediately taken to hospital. It was not found out about the special flight and treatment expenses in Finland.
Evgenia Blinova, the Head of Tourist Insurance Department of ‘Standard reserve’, explained that in some non-typical difficult cases tourists could be transported back to their countries at state expenses of the country where an incident took place. ‘Then a tourist can receive a bill. In case it is not paid, entrance to a country can be forbidden. In Russian insurance practice all diseases connected with alcohol abuse are not considered an accident insured’, said Blinova.
