Rudeness in Thai

[IMG=18781-4412] The New Year holiday was unexpectedly marked by a conflict between the managing board of Royal Cliff Beach Resort and in-country office of ‘Tez tour’. On the 3rd of January in the letter to ‘BANKO’ Sales Director of Thai 5* hotel, Viktor Kriventsov, explained his point of view on the situation. Here are some extracts from his letter: ‘On the 1st of January 2006 the reservation department of the hotel complex made a decision to cancel the booking from ‘Tez Tour’ as the payment was not made in time. The reasons for the cancellation were in detail explained in the letter to ‘Tez Tour’ office in Thailand by both the head of the reservation department of the hotel and me according to the documentally confirmed information. Today on the 3rd of January, 2006, at approximately 3 p.m. I had a phone call to my mobile from the general manager of ‘Tez Tour Co Ltd.’ in Thailand, Novikov Andrey. While the conversation Novikov was quite rude and aggressive towards me threatening bodily harm. ...I took this threat seriously and trembled for my life. Therefore I immediately informed the top management of the hotel, consular section of the embassy of Russia in Thailand and Honorary Consul of Russia about the situation. At the moment in cooperation with the top management of the hotel complex and its security service we are considering a complex of measures of legal and physical protection’. On the 10th of January ‘BANKO’ correspondents found out some details of the conflict. According to Kriventsov the situation is not that serious at the moment: ‘But frankly speaking, for ten years in tourism it was the first case of bodily harm threat due to my professional activity’. It appears that the reason for the conflict is short tempo of in-country ‘Tez Tour’ office representative, who started threatening in return to the information about booking cancellation. The Moscow office of ‘Tez Tour’ was absolutely perplexed by the situation, outlining that no changes were made within the contract with the hotel. The problem of non-accommodating the tourists was partly solved. ‘We took action to restore the booking from ‘Teztour’. It turned out impossible to restore some bookings from 6.01 to 8.01’, said Kriventsov’. Nevertheless, Sales Director of Thai hotel believes that the conflict will be eliminated on condition of clear apology from ‘Tez Tour’.
