Shortage of hotel rooms is a serious problem for Goa at the moment. According to the tour operators, interviewed by ‘Banko’ correspondent, after December 1st it is quite problematic to receive a confirmation for the New Year period. ‘Main expensive hotels are already fully booked, it is difficult to find accommodation for different tour duration’, – said Victor Chekalin, executive director of ‘Goa tour’. Ksenia Ogienko, tourism director of UTE Megapolus group, opines the same adding that even in case of real cancellation of the confirmed rooms by tourists Indian hotels do not always meet operator’s needs and are not ready to change tourists’ names.
There is no more reserve of in-country services, unless it is 2-3* hotels. ‘It is necessary to be careful with 2-3* hotels as they are not convenient for the Russian market and do not meet expectations of our clients’, – said Ogienko.
As a consequence of the situation tour operators expect special offers for plane tickets without in-country services.
Experts are unanimous regarding the reasons: ambitions are to be blame. So some tour operators could book tickets on additional flights without having the necessary amount of commitments in Goa hotels. According to Tatiana Melnichenko, tourism director of ‘Deo’, active bookings by foreign players that prevented receiving of additional rooms on request, are also a core of the problem.
