As a BANKO correspondent discovered in the Tunisian national representative office of tourism Akhmed Sluma, director of the Moscow office, is resigning due to the pension age. On the 23rd of January Mr. Sluma is turning 60 and according to the labour legislation of Tunisia he is obliged to resign.
Akhmed Sluma was appointed in charge of the travel office of the North African country in March 2004. Back then an arrival to the country of the public officer of such a high class (in the travel industry of Tunisia Mr. Sluma is the person number 2 after the Minister of tourism and crafts – Abderrahim Zuari and his authorized representative) was taken by experts as a wish of the Tunisian party to increase the tourist flow from Russia.
A candidate for the head of the Representative office is already confirmed. According to Medjid Kahlaudi, deputy director of the Representative office of the Tunisian national tourism office, it will be Mahmud Dardumi, a member of the staff at the Ministry of tourism in Tunisia, who has worked as a marketing director.
Meanwhile, operators in Tunisian representative office keep a low profile in the relation to management reshuffling in the Tunisian representative office. According to the market players interviewed by BANKO, the most important is the advertising support from the Tunisian party. Yet, as experts witness, the budget provided for promoting the destination in Russia has been reducing annually and it is still unknown whether the situation will change. ‘It might have been like that because Mr. Slum spent unusually short period at the post and therefore, unfortunately, failed to realize all plans’, - believes Alla Philimonova, head of direction of Africa, Near east and Mislle east of ‘Intourist’.
