The snowstorm that fell on European countries over the past weekends brought changes in automobile schedule and air communication. In Germany several thousand homes were left without electricity, according to ‘Euro news’ channel. The spontaneous forces affected Spain, France and Italy. However operators interviewed by BANKO noted that no problems were caused by the weather in relation to Russian holiday-makers. ‘They were not blocked by snow and no flights were cancelled’, said Yulia Kulyisheva, head of the French destination at ‘Ascent travel’. – ‘Besides early snowfalls can also be good. This means that mountains will have a stable blanket of snow by December’. However, the news in the Russian mass media already troubled some clients of several travel forms. Yulia Orekhova, general director of ‘Ankor’ company, says: ‘Two holiday-makers who wanted to go on a bus tour on the 10th of December cancelled it referring to the capricious weather’.
The information about the weather cataclysms on weekends also arrived from the other side of the world. In Thailand, heavy rains caused parts of the island Samui to be flooded, they are still under water. This kind of weather is typical for this season – in South-East Asia it is the rainy season, yet even so, several holiday-makers from Russia expressed their wish to leave the resort. ‘Several clients wanted to leave Samui before the end of their trip’, said Nikolai Salikhov, director of Bangkok company ‘Ivan Susanin’, ‘Yet today they changed their minds having slept on it’. The island of Samui has increased in popularity with Russian tourists this year compared to previous years. Experts relate this to the drop of demand in Phuket after the tsunami in December 2004.
