According to ettrdaily.com, Thailand and Cambodia in the nearest 6 months plan to change to a unified visa system. The agreement was signed on the 2nd of November in Thailand. Later Laos, Viet Nam and Manama will join them. These countries are participating in the project: ‘Five countries, one destination’, created for tourist promotion of the region.
Meanwhile, Russian operators believe that the forthcoming formation of the ‘Asian Schengen’ is unlikely to increase the travel flow to these countries, for example, to Cambodia, which is not advertised well enough in Russia yet. ‘The innovation will certainly give an opportunity to create additional excursion routes which will be of interest to exotic tour lovers but it is too early to talk about it as a mainstream destination’, says Irina Isabaeva, head of the agent relations department of ‘Puteshestvuy’.
It is still unclear where Russian holiday-makers will receive visas, as now they are issued in airports upon arrival. ‘So the news system will change nothing. What may promote these destinations is a well-thought out advertising campaign, convenient regional transportation and more flights’. At the moment holiday-makers can get to Cambodia only via other countries, for example, Vietnam’ notes Marina Rudakova, head of the South-East Asia department of UTE Megapolus group.
According to experts, the cost of the unified visa will not be high – around $25–30. This way if the system is created holiday-makers will be able to save on visas: visa to Viet Nam is $60 at the moment, in other above-mentioned countries it is around $30.
