Earlier this week Australian foreign minister Mr. Alexander Downer warned his countrymen against trips to Indonesia. This official statement is connected with recent bombings on Bali. It is well known that this island is a resort popular with Australians. According to Mr. Downer, new terrorist attacks on Indonesia, and especially on Bali, are not to be ruled out.
But Russian tourists, according to local tour operators, are used to constant threat of terrorist attacks in their own country and would not change their holiday plans even if Russian Foreign Ministry issues an official warning concerning Bali.
Tatiana Vand, head of Vand International Tour, made a supposition in a talk with BANKO IS reporter that no-one will remember the bombings on Bali a week from now. ‘The Foreign Ministry didn’t say anything even after terrorist attacks in Turkey and Egypt. Why speak of Bali? Only a handful of people died there,’ said Ms. Vand.
Victor Zagrebin, Dierctor General of Russian Holiday company, told BANKO IS reporter that he just flew back from Bali on October 5th. ‘Everything is quiet there. No-one left their hotels or decided to return home earlier,’ he said. Mr. Zagrebin reminded that in October 2002, when there were major bombings in Indonesia. Russian Foreign Ministry did not give out any warning for potential tourists. And this is only natural, for you cannot foresee a terrorist attack.
Experts admit that Bali hoteliers are going through a difficult time, for the number of bookings from the main market (Australia) has dropped considerably. However, there haven’t been no special price offers form them yet.
